An invitation arrived in the mail. A Lingerie Shower.

The intention of a bridal shower is to aid the newlywed couple as they establish their own home The lingerie concept enables the bride to ditch her old, tattered, worn-out undergarments for pretty, new ones. Afterall, the new hubby will soon be privy to every hidden article of clothing his lovely bride could previously hide.

Or do young ladies today not keep tattered underwear and desire more, um, exotic under clothes and night wear? Years ago, we had two choices in underwear: briefs or bikini cut. That's it. With such variety, I figured I should ask what the preference might be. Surely there could be no embarrassment. The invitation already listed a bra & panty size. But wait, maybe the groom should get an opinion. I sent a text message to my son, Christopher.

"I know this is awkward, but I'm going shopping for Lauren's Lingerie Shower. Do you have any preference?" I waited for his reply.

"Mom. There is no way I'm going to discuss lingerie preferences with you."

I laughed and laughed. I suppose this is not unlike the shocking realization that your parents have had sex at least once in their lives.

Someone at my former job at American Eagle once was talking to me while my DS#2 Bill was visiting me on the job. At some point, the talk turned to sex. Bill was about 24 at the time and was SHOCKED at the idea that his parents had EVER had sex. The co- worker tried teasing Mr Man of the World Bill. She said surely he must realize, that to obtain 7 kids- his parents had to have had sex at some point. Bill's response was to cover both his ears with his hands and begin chanting : LALALALALALALALALALALALALA

That is so funny!

I wonder what my MIL would have picked out for me? It's a little odd arming a person with things to beguile your kid.

It's also funny how I started off marriage with super-nice undies, but now I am back to the ratty stuff. Of course, I got pregnant with our first when we had been married for only a month, so it wasn't long before the lingerie and silky stuff no longer fit!

I wore white granny panties before I got married. I'm still wearing white granny panties. ;o)

Oh my goodness, that is too funny that you texted Christopher on this issue! I had a good chuckle at his reply.

Whatever happened to buying the bride items she'll need for her new home?! Times are different now, eh?

My grandma sent some stuff from Victoria's Secret to my "normal" bridal shower, and I was so embarrassed, especially since my grandma is the last person on earth I'd want buying lingerie for me.

What's worse than thinking your parents may have had sex once is actually hearing it or catching them. I am still scarred.

Hey - This post/topic would be fun for On The Flipside and I'd love to feature this post and you as a Guest Blogger. If you would be interested, I would simply duplicate this post - reference you as the Guest Blogger - link back to you and post it sometime soon (I would let you know exactly when). All I would change about your post, is I would add a picture and ask a question at the end, "Do You Think Men Care About Women's Lingerie?" or something like that. Let me know if you are interested in being a guest blogger with this post - e-mail me at (if you are interesed) and we can discuss the details if you have questions. Thanks - Kellan

Oh, his response made me laugh! I WON'T be asking my son that, LOL.

mom:"ok this is a little bit awkward but I just got the invite to Lauren's lingerie shower. Any requests?"

Son:"mom what the! I want you to go, and i want you to get her something, but i most certainly am not going to talk about my likes and dislikes of lingerie with you."

did just ask preference, asked for requests. Silly mom, how dare you try and ask me about that

That's hilarious! I would have asked my son the same thing and received the same response!

Your intentions are sweet. Hope you find the right gift.

Thanks for all of the comments-you all are hilarious.

Christopher, you know I would have added the text verbatim, but I'd already deleted and had to go by my memory. But I was certain I asked about your preferences, lol.
